He studied at the Law Department, Keio University.
Career
In 1933 Nemoto Susumi joined Jiji Shimpd newspaper. He studied painting under Ryushi Kawabata and exhibited his works at several exhibitions of the Seiryusha Art Society headed by Kawabata. After servig in the army in 1940-1943 he started to create his “silent” cartoons, or cartoons without words, which were carried on the Sun News newspaper and favorably received.
His Kuncuan series of cartoon have been carried on the Asahi Shimbun evening edition (since 1951). Kurichan is the name of hero of the serial cartoon, a small boy in a white-collar worker's family.
