WHITE, Newport John Davis was born on February 16, 1860. Son of Reverend Henry Vere White, Master of Arts, Incumbent of Swift’s Alley Church, Dublin, and Lucy Reeves, daughter of Hill Wilson, Solicitor.
Studied at Rathmines School. Trinity College Dublin (Scholar, 1880. Gold Medal for Latin, 1882.
Senior Moderator in Classics, First Senior Moderator in Modem Literature, Brooke Prize, 1883. First Theological Exhibition, 1885). Doctor of Divinity.
Curate of Bowdon, Cheshire, 1885. St. John’s, Birkenhead, 1888. Master of Arts and Bachelor of Divinity 1887.
Doctor of Divinity 1904. Professor of Biblical Greek in the University of Dublin since 1906. Deputy for the Regius Professor of Divinity since 1907.
Assistant to the Professor of Hebrew, and Reader in the English Bible since 1897. Canon of St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin, since 1906. Keeper of Marsh’s Library since 1898.
