Career
He is a Teachta Dála (Territorial Decoration) for the Limerick constituency. He was first elected to the council at the 2004 local elections. He was first elected to Dáil Éireann at the 2007 general election for the Limerick West constituency.
He was elected on the 1st count and received the 9th highest vote in the country and the highest vote of any of the newcomers to the Dáil.
He was the Fianna Fáil spokesperson on Environment, Community and Local Government from April 2011 to July 2012. In July 2012, he was appointed as party spokesperson on Justice and Equality.
