Nichido Chikei became a priest at the age of nine and studied at various temple schools in Kyoto and the Kanto District.
With his friend, Nichigi, he vowed to spread Nichiren’s teachings and wrote Sosho Yoko, in 28 volumes (1780-85). The modern doctrine of the Nichiren Sect is based on this work. In his late years, he lived in Honmyoji Temple in Kumamoto.
