At the Ursuline Convent he designed the first unit erected in 1854, now the convent proper, the East wing added in 1861, and the central building completed in 1892, a combination of Gothic, Moorish and Romanesque styles. He was also architect of a residence built for Walter Gresham between 1885 and 1892 at Broadway and 11th Street, once the show-place of the Southwest, since 1923 property of the Roman Catholic Church, and the News-Tribune plant dating from 1884. Elsewhere in Texas Mr. Clayton is said to have designed the Romanesque Church of the Annun¬ciation, 1869-71, at Houston.
