Haute was the son of Sir Edmund Haute and his wife, Benedicta Shelving. His first wife was Alice Couen, the daughter of Member of Parliament Thomas Couen from Ightham, near Sevenoaks, Kent.

Alice was a widow, and together they had four sons. The Hautes were well established in the areas of Waltham and Petham, near Canterbury, Kent. Haute"s brother Edmund was also Sheriff of Kent in 1408.
In 1395, he was elected Member of Parliament for Kent and in 1396 appointed Sheriff of Kent.
He was a tax collector for Kent from 1404. The last record of his being alive is from 1415, when he was in the company of Humphrey, Duke of Gloucester, the brother of Henry V of England, as they prepared to conquer France.
One, William Haute, became Member of Parliament for Kent.
