He was drafted by Tigers with their first selection, pick 9, in the 2012 American Federation of Labor-Congress Draft. He played his junior football at Eltham Panthers in the Northern Football League. He captained the Victoria Metro side at the 2012 American Federation of Labor-Congress Under 18 Championships.
Vlastuin is of Dutch descent.
Vlastuin made his American Federation of Labor-Congress debut in Round 5, 2013, against Fremantle.
