Nickolay attended Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. In 1979, he defended his first dissertation and became a Candidate of Math. In 1987, Kuznetsov defended his second dissertation and received Doctor of Engineering Sciences degree.
In 1979, Nickolay started his career as a junior researcher at V. M. Glushkov Institute of Cybernetics of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, a post he held till 1984, when he was appointed a senior researcher. In 1989, Nickolay was promoted to the position of a leading researcher.
During his lifetime, he taught at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, as well as at other universities of Sweden, England and Germany.
Nickolay Yurievich Kuznetsov is a renowned Ukrainian researcher and Doctor of Engineering Sciences. He co-authored many technical writings, including "Models of Random Processes: A Handbook for Mathematicians and Engineers", "Mathematical Theory of Reliability of Time Dependent Systems with Practical Applications" and others.

1996Nickolay married Alla Shumskaya on July 30, 1982. Their marriage produced two children — Oksana and Igor.
