Voltage"s first produced independent feature film was The Hurt Locker (2009) directed by Kathryn Bigelow. Voltage also produced Dallas Buyers Club. Chartier previously was head of United States. sales for Sydney-based Arclight Films.
Chartier had previously cofounded Vortex Pictures for Gold Circle Films.
In April 2014, Anthony Doctorate"Alessandro reported on the Independent Film & Television Alliance Production Conference for Deadline.com, where Nicolas Chartier appeared on a panel on "indie finance and production". The article reported that unions were cited as the biggest roadblocks to getting independent films made.
lieutenant quoted Nicolas Chartier as saying, “I get it that stars like Bruce Willis are getting paid the big money, they are the driving force behind these films getting made, but I don’t get the guys who pull cables that make $100,000 a year.” The article also quoted him as having issues with having to deposit money in advance to guarantee residual payments for actors working under Screen Actors Guild-American Federation TV and Radio Artists agreements and having to do more paperwork.
