1924 graduated Moscow Conservatory. Graduated University of Marxism-Leninism, Moscow City Communist Party of the Soviet Union Committee.
Until 1903 worked on a farm and sang in choir of Pesochnya village church. 1903-1911 errand-boy, then copyist in various Moscow offices. 1911-1917 in Russ, army.
1917-1921 worked in several Soviet organ, in Bogorodsk, now Noginsk. Performed at amateur club concerts and at factories and plants. 1921 passed competitive entrance examination for Moscow Conservatory.
1924-1925 Manager, “Hermitage” and “Aquarium” Theater Association. 1925 entered Opera Studio of Bolshoy Theater and 1926 became soloist after winning a contest. Roles include: German in Tchaikovsky’s “Pikovaya dama” (Queen of Spades).
Title role in RimskyKorsakov’s “Sadko;”. Jos6 in Bizet’s “Carmen”. Raoul in Meyerbeer’s “Les Huguenots”.
Radames in Verdi’s “Aida” and title role in his “Othello”. Vasiliy Shuysky and the impostor in Mussorgsky’s “Boris Godunov”. Finn in Glinka’s “Ruslan and Ludmilla”.
Grigoriy in Dzerzhinsky’s “Tikhiy Don” (The Quiet Don). Abessalom in Z. P. Paliashvili’s “Abessalom and Eteri”.
