Sefarim graduated from Ryazan Theological Divinity School in 1904, Saint Petersburg Theological Academy in 1908.
Sefarim became a monk in 1907. He worked as a teacher at Zhytomyr Pastoral School from 1909 to 1909, assistant of the superintendent of Kaluga Theological School from 1909 to 1911, inspector of Kostroma Theological Divinity School from 1911 to 1912. He was the rector of Voronezh Theological Divinity School from 1912 to 1918. Sefarim was the chairman of the Theological Brotherhood of Welfare for Poor Students from 1913 to 1918.
Sefarim participated in the preparation of the canonization of Archbishop Anthony (Smirnitsky). He left Voronezh with the White Army in October 1919. From 1920 to 1921, he was the Bishop of Luben, Vicar of the Diocese of Poltava from 1920 to 1921. He was the Bishop and Archbishop of Boguchar, administrator of Russian Orthodox parishes in Bulgaria from 1921. From 1946, he communicated with the Patriarchate of Moscow.
