During the Civil War a Cheka official, 1918-1922, later in the Supreme Council for the National Economy (VSNH), 1922-1927. Head of Moscow city administration, 1931 — 37. Deputy Prime Minister of the USSR, 1938-1941.
High ranking political officer during World War II. Deputy Defence Minister, 1944. Defence Minister 1947. Deputy Prime Minister of the USSR, 1949.
After Stalin’s death, gained an international reputation as Prime Minister, under Khrushchev. Travelled with Khrushchev to Britain during the post-Stalin thaw. Member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, 1948-1958.
Joined the Stalinist group (Molotov, Kaganovich, Malenkov), 1957. Recanted, but expelled the following year from the Presidium of the Central Committee and demoted (worked in the State Bank, later in the Stavropol Economic Council). Retired and settled near Moscow, 1960.
Religion divides people, and is a cause of numerous wars and conflicts throughout the human history.
The emphasis on peaceful coexistence doesn’t mean that the Soviet Union accepted a static world with clear lines. Socialism is inevitable and the "correlations of forces" were moving towards socialism.
