Nikolai Vasilievich Tarabarko is a famous Russian surgeon, transplantologist. In March 1987, as a part of a surgical team led by V.I. Shumakovym, for the first time in Russia he performed combined kidney and pancreas transplantation to a patient with decompression diabetes mellitus type I, complicated by diabetic nephropathy, with a good result.
Background
Kolya's childhood and youth were held in the town of Pochep. His father and mother were from the indigenous inhabitants of Bryansk, during the Great Patriotic War they experienced the German occupation. Father, Vasily Grigorievich, served an urgent service in the army, disaccustomed, then served in China as an instructor. After returning to his homeland he worked in agriculture. Mother, Mary Yakovlevna, kept housekeeping, looked after the children.
Education
Enrolled in the 1st Moscow Medical Institute named after I.M. Sechenov, which he graduated in 1981 on the specialty of medical business. Then he returned to Moscow, where he was studying in the internship of the Institute of First Aid named after N.V. Sklifosovsky.
After graduation from the 1st Moscow Medical Institute named after I.M. Sechenov Nikolay, as planned, returned to Bryansk, worked as a doctor in the 1st city hospital. In 1982 surgeon Nikolai Tarabarko worked in the Moscow City Clinical Hospital № 72.
In 1985, Nikolai Vasilyevich moved to the Research Institute of Transplantology and Artificial Organs of the Ministry of Health of the USSR (now the Federal State Institution "Institute of Transplantology and Artificial Orthopedics in Russia") named after academician V.I. Shumakov. Firstly he worked as a surgeon in the kidney transplantation and hemodialysis department, which was headed by a professor.
After the internship, the director of the institute suggested N.V. Tarabarko heading the All-Union Center for Conservation and Typing of Bodies, established on the basis of the Institute.
In January, 1996 he was appointed the head of the kidney and pancreas transplantation department, which had just been opened at the Institute.
Achievements
Working in the same operating team as V.I. Shumakov, constantly assisting him, he quickly mastered the surgical part of the donor stage of the operation. A year later, the academician allowed the young transplantologist to perform kidney transplant operations on his own. During this period, in March 1987, as a part of a surgical team led by V.I. Shumakovym, for the first time in Russia he performed combined kidney and pancreas transplantation to a patient with decompression diabetes mellitus type I, complicated by diabetic nephropathy, with a good result. Over the next year three more such operations were carried.
In 1989 Nikolay Tarabarko defended his thesis on the topic "Technique for removing pancreas and kidneys for clinical transplantation" for the degree of candidate of medical sciences.
Before and after returning from the internship, Nikolai Vasilyevich took an active part in drafting the Law of the Russian Federation "On transplantation of organs and (or) human tissues" adopted by the Supreme Council of the Russian Federation in December 1992, as well as subordinate regulations of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation.
At the same time, until 1996, Nikolai Tarabarko continued to perform the surgical practice of kidney transplantation.
In 1997 he defended his thesis on the topic "Providing donor organs for clinical transplantation" for the degree of Doctor of Medical Sciences.

Brigades of the ambulance refused to go there. One of the volunteer doctors was Nikolai Vasilyevich, who provided assistance to the wounded under bullets.
