Nikolai Andreevich Belogolovy was born on October 17, 1834, in Irkutsk, Russian Federation. Came from a merchant family.
Nikolai Andreevich Belogolovy received primary education in the family of the Decembrist A.P. Yushnevsky, later his teacher was A.V. Podzhio. In 1846, he was determined by his father to Ennes’s private boarding school in Moscow, where he met S.P. Botkin, Russian general practitioner, pathologist, physiologist, and public figure, who became a lifelong friend.
He graduated from the medical faculty of Moscow University in 1855, received the post of town doctor in Irkutsk, and founded the medical society there. He continued his education abroad, attended lectures at German universities. In 1862 he defended his doctoral dissertation.
In 1862 Nikolai Andreevich defended his doctoral dissertation and moved to Moscow, where he became a doctor and friend of many employees of the journal "Otechestvennye zapiski", including N.A. Nekrasov, M.E. Saltykov-Shchedrin, maintained friendly relations with I.S. Turgenev, A.I. Herzen, N.P. Ogarev, G. A. Lopatin, and S.P. Botkin.
In 1880 Nikolai Andreevich left medical practice and devoted himself entirely to literary activity. He lived with his wife in Switzerland, where he met with Russian emigrants. In Paris, he treated Turgenev and subsequently described the severity of his disease. He left an interesting book of memoirs dedicated to the Decembrists, Shchedrin, Nekrasov, Herzen, Tolstoy and other prominent people of his era.
Nikolai Andreevich wrote articles for the newspaper "Obshcheye delo", later became the editor-in-chief.

1892Nikolai Andreevich was the opponent of revolutionary changes and jokingly called himself a "gradualist" - a supporter of staged transformation. His goal was the unification of all opposition movements.
He was married to Sofya Petrovna Belogolovaya.
