Nikolai Ogryzkov was born on October 5, 1954, in the village of Strelitsa village, Semiluksky District, Voronezh Region, Russian Federation, to the family of Tatiana Kuzminichna and Vasily Petrovich Ogryzkovy.

From the first till the fourth forms Nikolai Vasilyevich studied at a school in the village of Strelitsa. Then, he studied at the Dance School of Voronezh. In 1973, Nikolai Vasilyevich graduated from the Moscow Academic Choreographic School (teacher A.A. Borzov). In 1987, he graduated from the choreographic department of A. Lunacharsky State Academy of Theatre Arts (the course of professor A.A. Borzov).
Before 1991, Nikolai Ogryzkov was the leading dancer of the dance ensemble run by I. Moiseev. In 1987-1997, he was a jazz-modern tutor at Moscow Academic Choreography School and studio school at the ensemble of I. Moiseev. Since 1990, he was the founder and art director of dance ensemble "Free ballet”. In 1991, he founded the School of Contemporary Dance of Nikolai Ogryzkov. He choreographed at the All-Russian art studio of variety entertainment. His major performances were "The Wedding", "At the Valley", "Three Colors of Time", "Recipes for adults". Nikolai also wrote a book "Modern Choreography of Russia".
Nikolai Ogryzkov was married and had two daughters. Both of them danced at Ogryzkov School of Dance.
