Professor; full member, USSR and Ukrainia Academy of Sciences; Director, Kharkov Observatory, since 1930; Head, Chair of Astronomy, Kharkov University, since 1934; Honoured Worker of Science of Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic. Member, Communist Party, since 1940.

1919 graduated Kharkov University.

Career

1919-1933 at Kharkov University. Specialist in planetary and lunar astronomy. Chairman, Commission for the Study of Physical Conditions on the Moon and the Planets, Astronomical Society, USSR Academy of Science.

Chairman, Council for the Coordination of Complex Science Achievements in Astrometry and Astrophysics, Ukrainia Academy of Sciences. Deputy, USSR Supreme Soviet of 1954 and 1958 convocation. Made a large number of photometric observations of Mars and Saturn and its ring through light filters.

Designed and constructed spectrohelioscope for solar observations.
