Studied at Saint St. Petersburg University. 1899 expelled from university for participation in student movement, went abroad and continued studies at Berlin, Zurich and Leipzig University.
1901 returned to Russia. Party work in Kiev, Tula, Saint St. Petersburg, Voronezh, Moscow and Urals. Frequently arrested and exiled.
1901-1904 in Geneva, together with Volunteer Officers' Decoration Bonch-Bruyevich founded Russian Social-Democratic Workers’ Party, Central Committee library and records center. Contributed to newspapers Zvezda and Pravda', 1913-1918 lived abroad. 1918 returned to Russia and held various exec Party and government posts.
1918-1919 member, cd bd, newspaper Pravda. Board member, Commission for Collating and Studying Material on the History of the 1917 October Rcvol and the History of the Communist Party. Lecturer, Sverdlov Communist University.
1926 lectured on history of Party and Leninism, Voronezh Agrie Institute. Author of a number of works on Communist Party history.
