Twice elected Deputy, Leningrad Smolny District Soviet. One of first Soviet surgeons to use intraosseous local anesthesia in operations on the extremities and the first to perform successful removal of embolus and aorta at the point of bifurcation. To facilitate the diagnosis of an embolus of the mesenteric vessels recommended his “symptom of increased arterial pressure”.
First in USSR to study importance of the Rhesus factor in blood transfusions. 1940 substantiated and experimentally proved the feasibility of using a universal donor for blood transfusions, a theory then rejected by many specialists. First in USSR to isolate blood subgroups and to prepare sera for isolating supplementary factors.
Developed a technique for preserving standard erythrocytes and substantiated the possibility of preparing dry sera. Works deal with: clinical aspects and society pathology of bone tuberculosis. Clinical aspects of blood transfusion and isoserology.
