1868 entered Saint St. Petersburg University.
1869 in the u'ake of student unrest joined medical students’ circle founded by M. A. Natanson, which became known as the "Chaykovskiy Circle”. 1874 gave up revol work after the circle was dissolved. Emigrated to United States of America, where he tried to set up an ajpric commune with his followers.
1879 returned to Europe after failure of this project 1880 settled in London, where he helped to organize Fund of the Free Russian Press. Became member, Agrarian Socialist League and Socialist-Revol Party.
1905 returned to Russia, broke with Socialist-Revolutionaries, legalized his status and joined cooperative movement, abandoning political activity'. During World War 1 "defensist”. After 1917 February Revol elected member, Executive Committee, Soviet of Peasants’ Deputy.
Member, Central Committee, Joint People's-Socialist Labor Party. Strongly supported coalition with Constitutional Democrats in Democratic Assembly and "Prc-Parliamcnt”. After 1917 October Revol member, All-Russian Committee for the Salvation of the Fatherland from Revol.
April 1918 helped to found Renaissance League in Moscow. From August 1918 head, Northern Oblast Supreme Administration, Arkhangel’sk. January 1919 fled to Paris.
February 1920 member, General Denikin's South Russian Government. Then supported General Wrangel.
