GORCHAKOV, Nikolay was born in 1898.
Graduate 3rd Studio, Maly Arts Theater (directed by Vakhtangov).
From 1922 actor and producer, 3rd Studio Maly Arts Theater. 1924 joined Maly Academy Arts Theater. 1925 helped Stanislavsky to stage Gore ot uma (Woe from Wit).
1928 helped V. I. Nemirovich-Danchenko to stage Kataycv’s Kvadratura kruga (Squaring the Circle). His other co-productions at this theater included Virta’s Zemlya (Earth) (1937), Sheridan’s "School for Scandal” (1940), Marshak’s Devnadtsat’ mesyatsev (Twelve Months) (1948), Kron’s Ofitser flota (An Officer of the Fleet) (1946) and Hellmann’s ’’Autumnal Garden" (1956). His own productions included Bulgakov’s Mol'yer (Molitre) (1936) and Bespokoynaya starost’ (Restless Old Age) (1956).
1933-1941 and 1943-1948 also artistic director, Moscow Satire Theater, where he co-produced Shkvarkin’s Chuzhoy rebyonok (Another’s Child) (1933) and Fakir na chas (Fakir for an Hour) (1946). 1941-1943 worked at Moscow Drama Theater, where he staged Russkiye lyudi (Russian People), Front (The Front Lincolnshire), et cetera Also worked as a theater critic and taught production techniques.
From 1939 professor and head, Chair of Production, State Institute of Stagecraft.
