KALITIN, Nikolay was born on March 29, 1884 in village Sirkovitsy, Yamburg Uyezd, Saint St. Petersburg Province.
1911 graduate Physics and Mathematics Faculty, Saint St. Petersburg University.
Worked for Main Geophysical Observatory where he supervised the actinometric department, which was reorganized in 1930 into the Institute of Actinometry and Atmospheric Optics. 1925 founded and headed Permanent Actinomelrical Commission of the Main Geophysical Observatory, which played an important role in organisation the network of Soviet actinomelrical stations. 1925-1940 edited Byulleten’ postoyannoy aktinometricheskoy komissii glavnoy geofizicheskoy observatorii', planned Palace of the Sun, built 1931 and specially equipped for actinometry and atmospheric optics.
Invented and built more than 30 original actinometrical instruments.
