KIZHNER, Nikolay was born on December 2, 1867 in Moscow.
1890 graduate Moscow University.
While still a student did work on hexahydrobenzene, providing the mathematical basis for the solution of a fundamental question in the chemistry of alicyclic compounds - the isomerization of cycles. 1895, on the basis of extensive research on typical alicyclic amines, wrote first detailed description of this group and deduced that the chemical properties of alicyclic amines are close to those of amines of the fatty series. 1900 devised method of obtaining substituted hydrazines.
Detected the intermediate formation of fatty diazo compound during the reaction of free hydroxyl amine and dibromo-amines. From 1901 professor, Tomsk Technol Institute. 1913 resigned in disagreement with educational policy.
1911 discovered catalytic hydrazine decomposition reaction (Kizhncr’s reaction), which was widely used in hydrocarbon synthesis. 1914-1917 taught at Shanyavskiy People's University, Moscow. From 1918 sci director
Aniline Trust Research Institute, Moscow. Contributed to development of Soviet paint and dye industry with his subsequent work on organic dyes. 1929-1934 correspondent member, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Academy of Sciences.
