1896 graduate Yur’yev (Tartu) Veterinary Institute.
From 1896 head, Diagnostic Department, Veterinary Laboratory, Russian Minister of International Affairs. From 1919 professor, Moscow Veterinary (now Zoological and Veterinary) Institute. 1935 discovered the agent of leptospirosis in livestock.
Developed methods of manufacturing vaccines for various livestock diseases (a formalin vaccine for paratyphus in calves, an antibacillary serum and complex antisera). Also devised a method of hyperimmunizing horses to speed up the manufacture of sera against Siberian plague.
