MISLAVSKIY, Nikolay was born on April 29, 1854. Son of well-known Ural surgeon A. A. Mislavskiy.
1876 graduate Medical Faculty, Kazan’ University.
From 1876 until death worked at Kazan’ University. Assistant professor, dissector, from 1886 associate professor, from 1891 professor and head, Kazan’ Physiological Laboratory. Did research on the body's nervous regulation.
1885 defended doctor’s thesis on the mammalian respiratory center, which he located in the medulla oblongata. Together with V. M. Bekhterev established how the cortex of the cerebral hemispheres influences the activity of a number of internal organs (the heart, stomach, intestines, urinary bladder, etc) and described the areas of the cortex containing centers controlling movement and secretory nervous reactions. Also studied the reflex regulation of blood circulation.
Established that blood pressure depends on the interaction of the antagonistic vasodilator and vasoconstrictor centers (an extension of the principle of reciprocal innervation of blood pressure regulation). Together with V. Borman devised original method of obtaining prostatic fluid and of studying the mechanism of salivation. Made first use of new preparation which made it possible to study the contraction of the smooth muscles and their reaction to various chemicals.
Together with Doctorate. Polumordvinov arrived at the disputed conclusion that inhibitory processes develop in the innervated organ itself and not via the nerve fibers. Demonstrated the adaptivity of the nerve centers to peripheral lesions by cross-suturing nerve fibers. 1898 member, International Commission for the Control of Graphic Research Methods.
From 1900 member, “Association de I’lnstitut Marey”. From 1910 correspondent member, French Biological Social: Honorary member, Kazan’ Social of Physicians, Social of Natural Scientists, Social of Neurologists and Psychiatrists and Ural Medical Social. Wrote over 50 works.
