1912 graduate Medical Faculty, Tomsk University.
1910-1911 worked as medical assistant during cholera epidemic. 1911 — 12 accompanied expeditions to Kara Sea and Baygach Island. 1913-1915 and 1919-1927 worked at Surgical Department, Soldatyonkov (now Botkin) Hospital.
Until 1917 also head, Prosthetic Department, Orthopedic Hospital. 1917-1919 chief physician, Ccntr Hospital for Invalid Soldiers, Moscow, then founder-head, Medical Department, Moscow Prosthetic Factory. Founder-head, Technical Medical Department, Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic People's Commissariat of Social Security.
Founder-head, Prosthetic Department, Therapy Board, Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic People's Commissariat of Health. 1921-1961 founder-director, Therapeutic and Prosthetic Institute (now Centr Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Ministry of Health), Moscow. 1931-1961 also founder-head, Chair of Orthopedics and Traumatology, Ccntr Institute of Postgraduate Medical Training, Moscow.
From 1932 founder and life-chairman, Moscow Social of Orthopedists and Traumatologists. 1933-1938 head, Chair of Traumatology and Orthopedics, 1st Moscow Medical Institute. 1938-1939 military surgeon in RussoFinnish War.
1940 defended doctor’s thesis on “Amputation of the Extremities and Prostheses”. 1941-1945 chief surgeon of evacuation hospitals, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics People's Commissariat of Health, then chairman, Learned Medical Council, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Ministry of Health. 1945-1947 Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Deputy Minister of Health.
From 1947 founder and life-chairman, All-Union Social of Orthopedists and Traumatologists. From 1947 also deputy chairman, All-Union Surgeons’ Social. Attended numerous Soviet and for surgical, orthopedic and traumatological congresses.
Deputy ed, journal “Ortopediya, travmatologiya i protezirovaniye”. Company-ed, “Surgery” section, “Bol’shaya meditsinskaya entsiklopediya” (Large Medical Encyclopedia) (2nd ed). Specialized in prosthetics, the treatment of war-wounded and war cripples and in hospital organisation.
Also did research on the treatment of wounds and fractures, osteosynthesis and false joints and the organisation of the orthopedic and traumatological service. Made special studies of treatment of burns, electr shock, the pathology and physiology of the bones and compensatory adaptivity in functional disturbances of the extremities. Encouraged the introduction of plastics in Soviet medical and helped to develop bio-drugs for use in traumatology.
Also did research on autoplasty, homoplasty and tissue regeneration and developed tissue conservation methods. Wrote over 200 works.
Member, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Academy of Medical Sciences from 1957. Communist Party member from 1946.
