Studied at Yelisavetgrad non-classical college.
1877-1881 volunteer, Russo-Turkish War. Won George Cross for valor. 1881 resigned second-lt commission and became an actor with G. Ashkarenko’s Ukraine company.
Then acted with Kropovnitskiy and Staritskiy’s companies. 1886 with Kropovnitskiy’s company on tour in Saint St. Petersburg. And 1887 in Moscow; 1888 founded theater company in conjunction with his brother and the artiste North. Zankovetskaya.
