After graduate worked as a general practitioner and at South. South. Girgolav’s Clinic. Defended doctor's thesis on the healing of spinal injuries. From 1924 senior assistant, V. A. Oppel’s Clinic, Surgical Department, Mechnikov Hospital, Leningrad.
1928-1932 assistant professor, from 1932 professor and head, 2nd Chair of Surgery, Leningrad Institute of Postgraduate Medical Training. 1950-1952 science director, Leningrad First Aid Institute. Made a major contribution to emergency visceral surgery, especially for acute intestinal blockage and pancreatitis.
Hypothesized that disturbances of the juice metabolism and loss of disgestive juices constitute a major factor in the lethality of acute intestinal blockage. Also specialized in traumatology. Organized a model traumatology section of the Surgical Department, Lenin Hospital.
Designed several instruments for setting fractures of the shoulder, heel bone and vertebra. Wrote over 80 works.
