Graduate Department of History and Philology, Moscow University. Attended lectures on history of arts at Sorbonne and Berlin University.
From 1891 history teacher, Moscow High-School Near 5; 1897 founded first model methodological history group and an auditorium for curricular and extra-curricular studies at this school. Also worked as inspector of same school.
1903-1909 chief ed, periodical “Pedagogicheskiy muzcy pcdagogicheskogo obshchestva pri Moskovskom universitete”. Professor of history and history methods, Tikhomirov Teachers’ Training Courses, Shclaputin Higher Teachers’ Training Courses, et cetera From 1934 head Chair of History Teaching Methods, Moscow’s Lenin Teachers’ Training Institute.
Advocated extensive individual study, use of visual aids and excursions in teaching of history.
