Began to write while in Red Army. In late 1920's helped found “LOKAF” (Red Army and Navy Lit. Association); 1935-1936 visited Poland, Austria, Denmark, France, Belgium and England.
1939-1940 headed group of writers from newspaper “Na strazhe rodiny” on Finnish Front during Soviet-Finnish War. During World War II in Leningrad Head, group of writers, Political Board of Leningrad Front. In late 1940’s took part in number of conferences for the defense of peace.

Since 1958 member, Commission for Foreign Affairs, USSR Supreme Soviet. 1911-1914 clerk, Naval Administration. During World War I drafted into army.
1918-1922 volunteer in Red Army. Since 1922 engaged in literature activities.
