From 1913, after graduate, associate professor, Moscow and Permanent’ University. 1916-1918 worked for newspaper “Utro Rossii”. 1918, while in Siberia, chairman, Eastern Department, Central Committee, Constitutional-Democratic Party.
Published Omsk newspaper “Russkoye deio” and headed Press Bureau in Kolchak government. After end of Civil War in Siberia emigrated to Harbin. 1921-1922 worked for collection and journal “Smena vekh”, published in Prague and Paris.
One of ideologists of “Change of Landmarks” movement. Sided with those emigres who considered further armed struggle against the Bolshevik regime pointless after the end of the Civil War and urged Russian intellectuals to return home and collaborate with the Soviet authorities. 1920-1934 professor, Harbin University.
From 1928 director, Centr Library, Chinese-Eastern Railroad. 1935 returned to Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics. From 1935 professor of geographical economics, Moscow Institute of Transport Engineer.
1937 arrested and sentenced for alleged anti-Soviet activities by Military Collegium, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Supreme Court.
