From 1930 political work in Red Army. From July 1941 commander, 2nd Partisan Brigade in Leningrad Oblast. By late 1941 his brigade had driven German troops from a territory of about 11,000 square kilometers and establihed the so-called “Partisan Kray” which existed until September 1942.
