Completed higher educational.
From early 1890’s worked as teacher and journalist in Kiev. Member, political organisation “Social of Ukraine Progressivists” and ed, Progressivist newspaper “Kievskiye otkliki”. Contributed to journal “Kicvskaya slarina”.
Also worked for Ancient Documents Archives. From 1908 member, Ukraine Sciences Social, Kiev, and ed of its journal “Zapiski”. 1908 arrested and imprisoned for political activities.
1910 appointed associate professor, Kiev University but forbidden to teach by Tsarist authorities. 1917 curator, Kiev School district. 1918 Collegium Member, Ukraine General Court.
Minister of Education in Hetman Skoropadskiy’s cabinet, then chairman, State Senate. 1919 chairman. Historical Social of Nestor the Chronicler. 1920-1929 head, Social and Economy Department, Ukraine Academy of Sciences.
1921 elected president, Ukraine Academy of Sciences but was denied approbation by Soviet Ukraine government. 1924 sentenced to ten years imprisonment in trial of “counterrevol Kiev Oblast Action Center” but subsequently amnestied. 1929 deprived of right to hold high office in Ukraine Academy of Sciences.
