Nikolay Nikolaevich YELANSKY


Nikolay YELANSKY, USSR Surgeon. Lieutenant-General, Medicine Corps; Professor 1932; Doctor of Medicine Science since 1924; Head, Chair of Faculty Surgery, Sechenov 1st Moscow Medicine Institute, since 1947; Chief Surgeon of Soviet Army since 1947; Honoured Worker of Science Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic since 1942. Stalin Prize, 1952; fifteen orders; medals.


YELANSKY, Nikolay was born in 1894.


1917 graduated Military Medicine Academy.


Со-Editor, “Surgery” section, “Bolshaya meditsinskaya entsiklopediya” (Large Medical Encyclopedia). Со-Editor, journals “Khirurgiya” (Surgery) and “Voenno-meditsinsky zhurnal” (Military Medical Journal). Member, Editor Council, “Antibiotika” (Antibiotics).

Editor, volume 14 and 15 of “Opyt sovetskoy meditsiny v velikoy otechestvennoy voyne 1941-1945 gg.” (Soviet Medical Experience of the 1941-1945 Great Patriotic War). Works deal with general and field surgery, blood transfusion and urology, and include a number of handbooks and monographs. 1960 attended International Congress of Phlebologists, Chambery, France.

1917-1918 regiment doctor in Russia Army on Southwestern Front. 1918-1921 doctor, Makarovo District Hospital, Voronezh Oblast. 1921-1934 intern, S. P. Fedorov Faculty Surgical Clinic, Military Medicine Academy, then at I. P. Pavlov Laboratory and other medical establishments.

1934-1946 Head, Chair of Faculty Surgery, Leningrad Pediatrics Medicine Institute. 1937-1938 Head, Chair of General Surgery, 1938-1939 Chair of Field Surgery, Military Medicine Academy. During Soviet- Finnish and Soviet-Japanese War 1939-1940 and World War II 1941-1945 directed surgical work on fronts.

1946-1947 again Chief of General Surgery, Military Medicine Academy.
