Nikolay Petrovich graduated from the Mikhailovsky Voronezh Cadet Corps (1862) and from the Konstantinovsky Military School (1863).
In 1871, Nikolay Petrovich retired, played on the amateur and professional scene, acted in theaters in Moscow, Voronezh, Odessa, Kiev, in different cities of Volga region. He was engaged in translation and adaptation of French dramas, including the plays of Alphonse Daudet "The Last Idol" (Moscow, 1881) and "The Elder Brother". The play of Victorien Sardou "Fatherland" (Kireev’s translation) was forbidden by dramatic censorship to the submission (1876). H.Barbusse and A. Krizafuli’s drama "Killing of Coverley" (lithographed edition - St. Petersburg, 1875) was staged on provincial stages for many years. Nikolay Petrovich led the bibliographic and theatrical department in the newspaper "News" (Saint Petersburg).
