Haugen, Nils Pederson was born on March 9, 1849 in Norway. Son of Peder N. and Karen (Stensrud) Haugen.

Education

Brought to the United States, 1854. Luther College, Decorah, Iowa, 1868-1871. Bachelor of Laws, University of Michigan, 1874.

Career

Court reporter, 1874-1881, also practice of law. Member Wisconsin House of Representatives, 1879-1880. Wisconsin State railroad commissioner, 1882-1886.

Member 50th to 53d Congresses (1887-1895), 8th and 10th Wisconsin districts. Practiced law at River Falls, Wisconsin, 1895-1901. Member State Tax Commission, 1901-1921 (chairman, 1911-1921).

Tax counsel to Board of Equalization, State of Montana.
