Nilton Bonder was born on December 27, 1957, in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. He is a son of Leo Bonder, an engineer, and Djarna Bonder, a social worker.
Bonder obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro in 1980. He then received Bachelor of Arts degree from Jewish Theological Seminary in New York City in 1982, as well as his Master of Arts degree two more years later. He finally received his rabbinic ordination there in 1985.
Bonder is the author of nationally and internationally recognized books on diverse subjects seen from a Jewish perspective. He is a rabbi and spiritual leader of the Brazilian Jewish Congregation. His books have been published in different countries.
Bonder has done consulting work for companies such as Natura, IBM, Embratel, Vale, O Globo, ABN AMRO Bank, Petrobrás, Dom Cabral Foundation and Getulio Vargas Foundation, among others. He directs the Midrash Culture Center in Rio de Janeiro.
Some of his books have been adapted for the theater.
