Teacher in country school admitted to Tennessee bar, 1866. Practiced, Pulaski Tennessee, 1867-1887, Birmingham, Alabama, 1888-1893, Knoxville, Tennessee, since 1893. Member bar Supreme Court of the United States, also of Tennessee, Alabama, Illinois and New York.

Secretary and general counsel W. Lonsdale Land Company District attorney general, Tennessee, 1867-1869. Member Tennessee State Senate, 1873-1874. Special judge, 1875-1877.
