In 1916 graduated from Applied Chemistry Department of Tokyo University. Since 1919 studied in Germany for 10 years.

Career
In 1927 he entered Kokura Petroleum Company and after successive promotions in 1935 became its director. In 1938 was appointed technical adviser of Nenryokyoku (Fuel Bureau), in 1939 became the managing director of Toa Nenryo Kogyo (Fuel Industry) Company and in 1941 the director of Kyodo Kigyo Kaisha (Joint Enterprise Company) and thereafter since 1944 held the post of the president of Toa Nenryo Kogyo Kaisha. Held additional posts with several industrial organizations including that of permanent director of NikKeiren (Federation of Japan Employers’ Associations).
