He attended art school in Adelaide where his tutor was the painter, Marie Tuck.
Foreign nearly sixty years, Noel Wood lived on Bedarra Island where he painted and established food gardens, living in his home on Doorila Bay, calling it the "House of Singing Bamboo", sadly today it does not exist after Cyclone Yasi. In 1947/8, he painted in Ireland, Britain and Europe, before returning to Bedarra. In the 1950s he spent some time in United States.
He had stopped painting by the 1970s.
