Bilow received a Bachelor of Science degree from Roosevelt University in 1949. Three years later he was given a Master of Science degree and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in 1956 from the University of Chicago.
Bilow began his career as a research chemist at Dow Chemical Company in 1956. Three years later he took a position of a chief scientist at Hughes Aircraft Company. Then in 1984 Norman was appointed a director of research of Furane products division at Rohm & Haas and held it for two years.
Also he worked as a manager of quality assurance of Furane products division at Ciba-Geigy Corporation from 1987 to 1989. In 1989, Bilow served as a consultant at the same corporation. Since 1991 he has been a private practice consultant in Los Angeles.
Bilow is a member of Society for Advancement of Materials and Process Engineering, American Chemical Society, New York Academy of Sciences and Sigma Xi.
On July 14, 1954 Norman Bilow married Selma Harriet Rifkin. They have 2 sons and a daughter.
