Norman Joseph Faramelli was born on August 26, 1932, in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, United States. He is a son of Guido Faramelli and Clara (Versari) Faramelli.
Norman received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Bucknell University in 1955. Later, in 1960, he attained a Master of Divinity degree from Philadelphia Divinity School (later known as Episcopal Divinity School). Then, Faramelli entered Temple University, graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Religious Thought, specializing in the relationship of religion and technology, in 1968.
Norman also holds an honorary doctorate from Episcopal Divinity School.
In 1960, Norman was ordained an Episcopal priest. During the period from 1960 till 1963, he held a post of a priest in charge of religious education at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Westfield, New Jersey. In 1963, he moved to Episcopal Church in Philadelphia, where he was made rector and remained in the position until 1967, when Norman became co-director of Boston Industrial Mission in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
In 1971, Faramelli was appointed president of the Center for the Study of Development and Social Change in Cambridge. Later, in 1974, Norman began serving as chairperson of board of directors at New England Oil Coalition. In the early 1970's, he also worked with national denominations in developing programs to address Eco-Justice-relating environmental and social/economic issues.
In 2000, Faramelli acted as a member of Executive Committee of the Democratic Socialists of America Religion & Socialism Commission. Also, since 2000, Norman has been holding a post of a lecturer in Philosophy, Theology and Ethics at Boston University School of Theology. Since 2006, he has been an adjunct faculty member in Christian Ethics at Episcopal Divinity School.
In addition, Faramelli has written extensively on religion and technology, eco-justice and economic and racial justice. In 1971, he published his book, entitled "Technethics: Christian Mission in an Age of Technology". Also, he has published over 100 articles and contributed to publications of Boston Theological Institute on the work of James Luther Adams and Walter Muelder, pioneers in the discipline of social ethics.
Moreover, during his career, Norman has worked in petroleum engineering and also in transportation and environmental planning in both industry and government. As an ordained Episcopal priest, he has served numerous urban and suburban parishes in the New York, Philadelphia and Boston areas. In addition, Faramelli has worked as a consultant to national denominations and the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts. It's also worth mentioning, that he has been long associated with Episcopal City Mission in their work in housing and public advocacy for economic justice, and held a post of President of the Community Development Corporation in Waltham.
Currently, besides being a priest and educator, Norman serves on the boards of Massachusetts Interfaith Worker Justice and Refugee Immigration Ministry.

Norman married Lucie-Marie (Schaffer) Faramelli on April 27, 1957. Their marriage produced four children - Christine Marie (Faramelli) Russe, Catherine Anne (Faramelli) Flickinger, Paul Joseph Faramelli and Deborah Lucie (Faramelli) Moschella. Norman's wife, Lucie-Marie, died on December 6, 2017.
