The youth came to the U. S. to study architecture. After enrolling at Cornell University, he graduated with a B. A. degree in 1911, attended Union College for a term, and completed his studies during 1913-14 at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris.
Opening an office in Niagara Falls, Mr. Kirkpatrick carried on independent practice for three years, then in 1917 at the start of World War I returned to Canada to serve as Instructor with the Canadian Royal Air Force. In 1921 he resumed architectural work in Niagara Falls, subsequently entered into partnership with Will A. Cannon, and under the firm name was connected with the design of a number of public and commercial buildings in the city. Noted examples of the firm’s work were the Niagara Falls City Hall, com¬pleted in 1924; Niagara Hotel, 1927; Carborundum Corp. Office Building; LaSalle Junior High School, 1931, and Research Building for the Union Carbide-Chemical Corporation, 1934. In addition Mr. Kirkpatrick and his partner designed a number of residences in the city and environs.
