Nuggeballi Kesbava Iyengar

Background

Nuggeballi Kesbava Iyengar was born on July 29, 1911, in Mysore, India. He had two siblings: N.C. Iyengar and Seethamma.

Education

Nuggeballi Iyengar was gold medallist at Mysore University and in 1930, took Bachelor of Science degree there. In 1933, he received a Master of Science degree at Bombay University and in 1953, graduated from Calcutta University with a Doctor of Philosophy degree.

Career

His research was devoted to snake venoms, the chemistry of blood, vitamins, hormones, and forensic science. Nuggeballi Kesbava Iyengar worked as a food analyst in Mysore City and as a biochemist at Central Drugs Laboratory of Calcutta. Since 1956, he was director of the Central Forensic Science Laboratory of Calcutta. he was also an adviser at the International Criminal Police Organization. Nuggeballi Kesbava Iyengar was elected as a fellow of Indian Academy of Sciences. Nuggeballi Iyengar wrote about 50 articles and research papers on drugs and forensic science.

Nuggeballi Iyengar belonged to members of All India Drugs Analysts Conference (chairman, Biochemistry Division, 1954), Central Medioco-legal Advisory Board, Central Advisory Committee on Forensic Sciences, Indian Academy of Forensic Sciences (secretary).
