Background
Ceramist. Born in Hizen Province (Nagasaki Prefecture). Original personal name: Yajibe. His grandfather was by birth a Korean who was invited to Japan by Shigenobu Matsuura, Lord of Hirado Clan, after the Keicho-no-Eki (invasion of Korea). Landing at Nakano, in Hirado Island, he built a kiln there. Nyoen was his grandson. Later Nyoen came to Mikawa (Aichi Prefecture) and the clan lord granted him a stipend and was asked to build more kilns for the manufacture of pottery known as Mikawauchi-yalci.
