Huq was born to Bazlul Huq Khan and Anjuman Nessa on 31 October 1911 at Feni, Noakhali in the south east part of Bangladesh (then British India).

Huq was born to Bazlul Huq Khan and Anjuman Nessa on 31 October 1911 at Feni, Noakhali in the south east part of Bangladesh (then British India).
He was awarded Ekushey Padak in 1983 by the Government of Bangladesh. Haling from Noakhali, Huq did his masters in philosophy and Psychology in 1934 and obtained law degree in 1936 from the University of Dhaka. Huq joined the Pakistan Observer in 1951 as joint editor and after the independence of Bangladesh in 1971 he joined The Bangladesh Observer as the editors
Later, he worked as a columnist and regular contributor to different dailies.
His father was a lawyer at Feni and a Member of the Bengal Provincial Legislative Assembly.
