Phillips recorded it, as well, on the Coral label, with Buddy Holly on guitar. Echols" father, Odis Lemuel "Pops" Echols bought Clovis, New Mexico radio station KCLV. Born in Clovis, New Mexico, Echols graduated from Texas Technical University, Echols and his father were radio broadcasters. Echols served in the New Mexico State Senate 1966-1977.
He died in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
