Ogawa Shotaro was already famous when he was a student at the Wakayama Middle School as a fast ball pitcher.
He visited the United States (1927) as a member of an all-Japan middle school team picked by the Mainichi Shimbun. Later he entered Waseda University and won many games for the team.
Ogawa Shotaro stopped playing (1930) due to illness. Joined the Mainichi Shimbun and became chief of its Sports Section.
