Ohara Magosaburo

Background

Ohara Magosaburo was born in 1880. He was the second son of Koshiro, a wealthy family in Kurashiki City, Okayama Prefecture.

Career

After graduating from Waseda University, he became president of the Chugoku Bank, Kurashiki Spinning and Kurashiki Silk Weaving companies and held important posts in other firms, thereby becoming a leader in the Kansai business world.

Achievements

• Ohara Magosaburo became famous for the Ohara Social Problem Research Institute, Ohara Agricultural Research Institute and the Ohara Art Museum, which were founded with his funds. Also maintained an orphanage and collected many masterpieces of Western fine arts.
