Ojārs Aleksandrs Bisenieks was born on August 6, 1924 in Latvia.
Ojars Bisenieks studied at the Arts & Crafts college in Liepaja, in Professor J. Tilbergs’ art studio in Riga, and Professor A. Broecker’s art school in Munster, Germany. In Australia, he studied modern art in the studio of George Bell and privately with Teisutis Zikaras in Melbourne.
Between 1955 and 1977 Ojārs Bisenieks held 19 one-man exhibitions in Australia, exhibited in New York in 1965 and Washington in 1966. He has participated in selected group exhibitions in Australia, Canada, Germany, and in London, Paris, New York, Chicago, and has contributed to most of the Latvian Arts Festivals. He is the winner of the Australian Stained Glass Design competition in 1961. Ojārs Bisenieks is also represented in the Museum of Modern Art and Design in Australia and the Duncan Art Centre Gallery in New York. He has been a member of the Victorian Artists and Contemporary Art Society and the Latvian Artists Group "Blue Brush." He has designed stage scenery for repertory theatre, ballet, and opera in Melbourne for both the Australian and Latvian communities.
In 1959 Ojārs Bisenieks joined the family of talented and active artists - the group of painters Zilā Ota ("Blue Brush"). The members of this group were Latvian artists in East Melbourne, Australia, such as Kārlis Mednis, Gunārs Jurjāns, Gunārs Saliņš, Leo Svīķers, Kārlis Trumpis, and Erna Vilka.
