Okabe Nagamoto was born on January 4, 1854. He was the eldest son of Nagakura Okabe, lord of the Kishiwada Clan in Izumi Province (Osaka Prefecture).
Okabe Nagamoto was born on January 4, 1854. He was the eldest son of Nagakura Okabe, lord of the Kishiwada Clan in Izumi Province (Osaka Prefecture).
He became lord of Kishiwada with a total fief of 53,000 koku (1868). The following year, he turned over his territory to the Imperial Government and was appointed governor of Kishiwada. Resigning the post soon afterward, he traveled in the United States and Britain. He became a counselor of the Legation in London (1886). Was appointed Foreign Vice-Minister (1889), a member of the House of Peers (1890) and Governor of Tokyo Metropolis (1897). He was Justice Minister in the second Katsura Cabinet.
He became son-in-law of his uncle, Nagahiro Okabe.
